Your Concern
Letter #3
This letter is a little different than the others, because it’s written to someone I see regularly from afar, but have no real relationship with. This letter is written to the father of one of my swimming students. He drops off and picks up his child, and we barely exchange two words as I tell him that his son did a good job during the lesson, but I see him every week, sitting behind the glass wall in the waiting area watching his son’s swimming lesson and going on his phone to pass the time.
Hello Stranger,
You come here every week. You keep showing up. I see you watching the lesson. I see how concerned you are, and you’re trying not to be. I see your son struggling with the noise and chaos of the pool full of people. I am trying so hard to help him, and I think that is getting through to him. I imagine all the sleepless nights and early mornings you keep to help him. I see them in the bags under your eyes. I want you to know other people also want to support him. I hope that in other places in his life people are helping you support him too.
With love,
Laila
